LIFE THROUGH THE LENS...

Welcome to lens-perspective. This site was created so that I could share images of this country that are both grand in their scale and beauty and at the same time very accessible to everyone.

As my own personal photographic style evolves, so do the images that appear on this site. You will always find the grand vista because like many of us, I am visiting these places for the first time. And while the “iconic” shots have been taken by countless other photographers, they are first-time photographs for me.

But you will also find images that represent smaller views and impressions of the grand landscapes -- views that I hope still capture the color, tone and beauty of these places.

I hope you enjoy the site and that the images offer a temporary escape from the challenges of everyday life.

The Southwest : The red rock of the Southwest - is there anything more beautiful...By far, this area of our country is my favorite place to visit and photograph. It's natural beauty never ceases to inspire and the photographic opportunities here are both amazing and endless. I could spend the remainder of my life photographing in the Southwest and barely scratch the surface in capturing the essence of this beautiful landscape.

The UP of Michigan : I discovered the beauty of Fall color in the Upper Peninsula (UP) of Michigan just last year (2010). Less than 8 hours from Chicago, this area runs for over 300 miles along the Lake Superior shoreline and it is home to some of the most beautiful Fall color, trails, lakes and waterfalls that I have ever seen. The UP is more well know to Midwest residents and photographers, but it should be a serious Fall color consideration for anyone who appreciates the natural beauty of an unspoiled landscape.

Yosemite : I have only had the opportunity to explore Yosemite in Winter when only the valley floor is open to visitors. The winter landscape can be breathtaking, especially after a new fallen snow. Patagonia : In March 2012, I had the opportunity to explore several amazing parts of the Patagonian Steppe with a great friend and a wonderful group of photographers. Our journey took us to the foot of Mt. Fitz Roy, the Perito Moreno Glacier (Argentina) and Torres del Paines National Park (Chile). It is an amazing world that we live in when you can be standing at the Straits of Magellan one day and be home in Chicago the next. This gallery contains my favorite images from this adventure. I decided to convert many of these photographs to black and white because I felt that the contrast between light and dark in the scenes better captured the drama and majesty of these mountain peaks. I hope you enjoy these images as much as I do...
